Some people in the store look first at the price. Others at the color. We, with a slight smile and without a shred of shame, admit: we always check the label. Because it's there, in small print, that the true character of a garment is written. Not on the front, not in the logo, not in the advertising slogan. In the ingredients.

Slow fashion zaczyna się od składu. Jak czytać metki, by kupować świadomie?

Slow fashion doesn't start with a marketing campaign or Instagram. It starts with choices. Even the most subtle ones – like the moment you run your finger along a label and see: 100% polyester. Or: 80% cotton, 20% polyester. It sounds inconspicuous, but it makes a huge difference.

What does the composition really tell us?

A fabric label is more than just information. It's a designer's manifesto, a technological decision, and a preview of how the garment will age. Here are a few things worth knowing:

  • 100% cotton – sounds natural and often feels good to wear, but it can warp, shrink, or lose its shape quickly. Not all cotton fabrics are luxury.

  • Cotton with elastane (e.g., 96% / 4% - 92% / 8%) – slightly stretchy, more resistant to deformation, holds its shape, and moves well with you. Great for T-shirts or leggings.

  • Cotton-polyester (e.g., 80%/20%) – enhanced durability, reduced risk of pilling, better color and shape retention. Ideal for everyday clothes that will last for years.

  • Viscose, lyocell, modal – artificial cellulose fibers that can be very pleasant to the touch and breathable, but are also more sensitive to washing. Their quality depends on the manufacturer.

  • Cupro – as soft as silk, yet entirely plant-based and breathable. Perfect for sensitive skin, luxurious to the touch.

  • Sorona – an innovative corn-based fiber, flexible and durable, often used in sportswear and casual wear. Environmentally friendly when sourced responsibly.

  • 100% polyester – durable, but can be stifling, builds up static electricity quickly, and often has an unpleasant feel. Avoid, especially next to skin—unless it's recycled polyester, which may be a more sustainable option.

The consciousness that carries

At momonde, selecting the right ingredients is one of the most important design steps. We prioritize function and quality over fashion. That's why:

  • in lighter clothes we use cotton with elastane ,

  • in oversize sweatshirts or tracksuit sets – cotton with polyester ,

  • We avoid 100% polyester where comfort matters.

It's not a compromise, it's a choice. Because good clothing is one that not only looks beautiful out of the box but also after the tenth wash.

How to shop more consciously?

  1. Always check the tag . It's 5 seconds that will tell you more than a photo on a model.

  2. Look for ratios. 90/10, 80/20, 96/4, 92/8 – these numbers matter, especially in cotton-elastane or polyester blends.

  3. Ask questions. If you're unsure about the ingredients, ask the brand. A reputable company should be able to answer them without any problem.

  4. Trust your touch. Material speaks volumes – just touch it. And feel it a little.

Conscious choices begin with information. And the label, though small, is one of the most powerful. In fashion that matters, it's the ingredients that speak volumes.

Because slow fashion isn't a trend. It's a decision. And it starts right here : under the finger that flips the label.
